A historic Victorian mansion in Rosedale, Toronto
A typical Rosedale Victorian estate. The neighbourhood's mature trees, deep lots, and architectural history shape the design context for our marble work here.

The Rosedale Architectural Context

Rosedale developed from the 1860s through the early twentieth century as one of Toronto's first planned luxury neighbourhoods. The architectural inventory is dominated by Victorian and Edwardian estates: red brick with stone trim, ornate gables, leaded windows, mature gardens. Many Rosedale homes have been continuously occupied by Toronto's professional class since their construction; the neighbourhood retains an unusually high proportion of original architectural detail.

For our marble work in Rosedale, the architectural context shapes specification in ways that overlap with but differ from the Forest Hill context:

Heritage character preservation is more often a priority in Rosedale than in any other Toronto neighbourhood. Many Rosedale homeowners explicitly want their renovations to feel architecturally continuous with the original construction; this rules out aggressive contemporary specifications and rewards stones and profiles with classical pedigrees. Carrara White, Statuario, and Travertino Romano are the most-specified stones in our Rosedale work.

Bath and powder room renovations dominate our Rosedale project mix. Most Rosedale homes have multiple original bath spaces, often with original (and dated) plumbing infrastructure. Renovating these spaces with marble that respects the heritage character while updating the function is a recurring project type.

Kitchen renovations are the second most common project type. Rosedale kitchens are often relatively modest in scale compared to Forest Hill or Bridle Path; the design challenge is producing a luxury marble kitchen that fits within the proportions of an original Rosedale floor plan. Honed Carrara, Calacatta Gold, and Emperador Dark all work well here.
